Loving Hongkong

By Jillsabs - Posted on 01 February 2010

It was my third visit to Hongkong but the first time I actually found myself falling in love with it. Here are the reasons why I would immediately pack my bags and move to Hongkong tomorrow in a heartbeat (even if it was slightly foggy when I was there):

  1. Fast-paced and efficient government services- I was able to visit the immigration building along Wanchai road and let me tell you, there were no fixers outside advertising their services nor an express lane, which is basically just legalized fixing when you think about it. There were several windows and one organized line. There was no need to hop from one window to another with some vague instruction about completing Form 123496 before Form098876 could be processed.

Incidentally, I don't know if it's true with all the government offices in Hongkong, but the windows in the Small Claims Court are rigged with recording devices to ensure polite public service, among other things.

  2. Reliable public service- the MTR system is so dependable that there's really no need to buy a car, not that you would even want to because parking is such a hassle in the city.

  3. Cold weather without icky snow- there was apparently a warm spell when I was there, so from the nippy 12°C about two weeks ago, last week was warmer at 20°C, comfy aircon-like weather right there.

Cold weather also means bringing out the layers and knee-high boots. Browsing through the the stores was such a frustrating experience because most of the boutiques I entered were stocked with winter paraphernalia, ergo, useless in the Philippines.

Check out this store carrying lovely boots!

Ah yes Hongkong, we shall meet again :)

Hi Faith,

That store is in Tsim Sha Tsui, don't really remember the street but it's near the MTR station:p

You'll find a lot of similar stores in Tsim Sha Tsui :)

Hi Tinkerbellie,

I think this was in a sidestreet. Basta it's near the TST station, although I don't remember the street name anymore:p But it can't be that far because I was just on foot, with my wheelie luggage in tow, when I saw it.

I was there too around Jan 1 - 5... and the weather was cold and windy. I simply could not resist those boots as almost 99% of the population of women there were wearing one. I lost my sane and practical mind that I bought 2. Boots there are way cheaper than here. Ironically, I can't wear them anymore.
